43. Resoluteness

Resoluteness – Firm or unwavering adherence to one’s purpose.

To the woman facing a crisis pregnancy,

I see you. I know how fast your heart is beating at this moment. I know you can hear your heartbeat ringing in your ears and it’s deafening. I know how much your body is trembling as you hold that positive pregnancy test in your hands. I know how shallow your breathing is; like if you can just hold your breath it will all go away. I know how your stomach dropped and you feel like you’re going to be sick. I know how your mind is racing and yet all your thoughts are jumbled. I know what it feels like to have tears pour down your cheeks. I know how desperately you’re trying to keep it all together on the outside while your body is experiencing a panic attack on the inside.

I know how ashamed you are. I know how damaged and broken you feel. I know how disappointed you are in yourself. I know how guilty you feel. I know how ill equipped and unprepared you feel. I know you feel like a failure.

This isn’t what you wanted. This isn’t the guy you wanted to have a baby with. This isn’t the right time. This isn’t the right place. This isn’t how you wanted to feel. This isn’t how you thought it would be.

What do you do now? What will your life look like after this? What will the guy’s life look like after this? What will the child’s life look like? What will people say? What will people do when they find out?

What if you don’t go through with this pregnancy? Maybe no one would have to know about this? Maybe abortion is the answer?

I know how torn you feel. I know what it feels like to be pressured into making a decision. I know what it’s like to try to convince yourself that abortion is the right choice. I know the termoil you feel and how you believe that abortion is your only option. I know what it’s like to walk into an abortion clinic. I know what it’s like to make the decision to walk out of the abortion clinic. I know what the wave of peace feels like when you make the choice to keep your baby.

I know that NOTHING will ever make you unsee or unhear that you were pregnant. It changes you. The reality is, no matter what choice you make, your life will never be the same. Either way, you have to live with the choice you make for the rest of your life.

I know what abortion really is. I know that it takes the life of a baby – your baby. I know abortion comes with it’s own consequences. I know that abortion doesn’t make your problems go away, it creates new ones.

I know making a decision to keep your baby doesn’t mean your path will be easy. None of your problems go away the moment you make your decision. I know how terrifying it is to have to tell people and endure their reactions whatever they may be. I know what it’s like to have to choose what’s best for you and your child even though it means it hurts someone you love.

I see you. I know the swirling thoughts and emotions going on inside of you. I want you to know one thing – YOU ARE NOT ALONE! With resoluteness, I want to convey this message to you right now: No matter how it feels, you are not alone. Don’t act out of fear even though you feel afraid. Be brave! Breath.

I know that NOTHING, let me repeat that, NOTHING will ever take away God’s love for you. It doesn’t matter what your sexual history is. It doesn’t matter if you had an abortion. It doesn’t matter. God still loves you.

I know that ALL life is precious no matter how conception occurred. I know that sometimes our greatest mistake can become our biggest blessing.

I see you. I was you almost three years ago. I reached out for help and was astounded at the love and support I received. My story is still unfolding. Healing has been a work in progress. Things aren’t perfect or easy. But, I can honestly tell you that I wouldn’t change this journey even though it’s not what I wanted. My child is a miracle and your child is too.

Love,

Redeemed Mama
